The newest from Google’s mid-range line is a powerhouse in its own right.
After several months of leaks, Google finally unveiled its latest Pixel 7a phone. This device is the only one shown at its latest I/O conference that’s already up for sale. Read about the Pixel Fold, another device unveiled at I/O.
The tech giant has made several substantial improvements over the Pixel 6a, most notably on the camera and the processing power behind its pictures and videos. It features a 64-megapixel primary sensor, 72% larger than the previous model. It also contains a 14-megapixel wide-angle lens, and it has a 13-megapixel resolution selfie camera. All of them also record video in 4K resolution, although only the primary sensor does so at 60 FPS.
The real power behind the cameras, however, relies on the Tensor G2 processor. The combination of excellent sensors with the processing power of the Tensor G2 chip delivers a faster and better camera experience. For instance: the Pixel 7a does not feature a camera that allows for a high optical zoom without loss of quality; but the 64-megapixel sensor working in tandem with the Super Zoom algorithms powered by Tensor G2 allows for up to 8 times of digital zoom with excellent quality.
There is also a great amount of color correction, balancing between dark and light zones (even in low-light conditions) as well as an improved management brightness and noise reduction. All of these elements provide one of the best phones for picture taking, especially considering the $499 launch price.
The other important feature is the software itself. Google knows how to squeeze every last bit of its Android operating system in order to provide the best software experience on its Pixel devices, and the 7a is no exception. Not only can you expect great performance and perfect integration with Google’s services basic services like Gmail or Docs, but you will also find access to more advanced features like Google One’s VPN or the advanced editing suite at Google Photos.
The new 6.1in screen features AMOLED technology, and it is capable of a Full HD+ resolution. Unlike its 6a predecessor, this new screen has a refresh rate of 90hz, which is an improvement over the previous 60hz. This will allow for smoother transitions and animations, and even though other devices in the similar price range have refresh rates of 120hz, is it still an extremely good screen.
The Google Pixel 7a is out for sale already, and you can buy it for $499.
